The billion dollar logistics industry is comprised of a diverse suite of organisations, each specialising in their own niche. In everyday terms, a niche is a space or recess in a wall where you place something, usually an ornamental object. In business it means the space occupied by an organisation (ie. its place and function) within its industry.

Well over a decade ago, we recognised that there was a space in the logistics market that was not being adequately serviced. This gap in the market was created by freight companies whose infrastructure required them to only focus and specialise in servicing customers with high volume parcel requirements. As a consequence traditional freight and courier services companies said 'no' to an emerging market segment of customers who had smaller volume requirements and demands for a more tailored service. This neglected market was seeking a convenient packaging service, flexible pick-up times, parcel-drop points, document handling, home delivery solutions, furniture removals, a place to buy boxes and packaging materials and a 'no minimum' monthly spend for courier services.

Market research showed that local business communities wanted a convenient business service centre, which gave them access to a 'one-stop-shop' of affordable freight solutions that included the full range of value-add services.

Our Unique Business Model

To meet these needs PACK & SEND developed a unique business model that focused on providing personalised solutions for customers, whether they had one item or hundreds of items to send. The principal element of the PACK & SEND business model was the establishment of a network of retail service centres. These centres allow us to a) consolidate freight from a large number of small volume users where the synergistic benefits can be passed on to the customer and b) enable high levels of personalised service to the local community, compared to having to deal with a 'call centre' for a typical freight company.

Since opening our first PACK & SEND store in 1993, we have experienced significant success in servicing businesses of all sizes, from Blue-chip corporations, government departments, and start-up small businesses. Today, this once vacant space of the logistics industry is increasingly being filled by the expanding PACK & SEND service centre network. PACK & SEND now dominates and occupies this niche market exclusively.
