Australia’s leading retail freight and packaging company PACK & SEND has reported solid growth in both sales and store numbers in New Zealand and the United Kingdom during 2010.

This follows the relatively recent opening of the first PACK & SEND store in New Zealand and the UK in late 2008 and early 2009 respectively, proving its unique retail model to be very resilient throughout the global economic downturn. Australia’s 110 store network also maintained growth, achieving system-wide sales growth of 5.5% for the full 2010 calendar year and posting its highest sales revenue in the company’s history in the month of December 2010.

Mike Ryan, Chief Executive of the PACK & SEND UK master franchise operation said: “Sales revenue growth for our first store in Reading during calendar year 2010 was over 60% up on the previous year and gross profit margins also increased. This result is particularly pleasing, as our first year of trading in this store was also strong and above expectations.”

Since opening the Reading store in the UK, further franchise stores have been established in Leeds, Birmingham and Southampton and sites are currently being fitted out in Bristol and London for opening very soon. PACK & SEND's reputation for high quality packing and delivery services and fanatical attention to customer satisfaction has led to the UK business also securing several prestigious accounts. “We work with Qantas and Delta Airlines at Heathrow and Gatwick and our specialist knowledge of the antique and art world have helped us win work with Sothebys, Bonhams and Christies in London and internationally. We also undertake work for global businesses like Microsoft, Cable & Wireless and Foster Wheeler,” says Mike Ryan.

The store rollout program in New Zealand has been impressive. Matthew Everest, Managing Director of the PACK & SEND New Zealand master franchise operation said: “To date, we have established 7 stores over the north and south islands with a further store to open soon in Queenstown, New Zealand’s premier tourist destination. Our first store was established on the south island at Riccarton and it performed strongly from the outset, exceeding original business plan targets.”

New Zealand franchise stores established in 2009 are achieving second year growth rates in excess of 65%. Craig Gordon, franchisee of the PACK & SEND Auckland City store says: “As a return on investment the business is performing far above our best projections. We have charted steady and quite spectacular growth since opening our franchise in July 2009.”

“The strong performance in the UK and New Zealand in a tough economic climate was attributable to a number of factors,” says Michael Paul, founder and CEO of PACK & SEND International. “The high quality of our master franchise partners combined with strong business systems and a ‘no limits’ customer service culture is effectively what forms the backbone of our international success.”

The results show that the PACK & SEND business model works in a variety of economical and cultural environments and consequently the company has received increased international enquiries from entrepreneurs considering putting the PACK & SEND retail concept to work in their country.

“Logistics is an exciting growth market. Technology and globalisation have re-shaped the way both businesses and people buy and send things – and this trend is playing to our strengths. We have advanced technology and business systems, physical points-of-presence and complete packaging and freight solutions. This is a unique set of capabilities and with our strategic focus we are ideally positioned to reap substantial rewards,” Says Michael Paul.
